People believe by blind devotion and unquestioning obedience to Guru and by surrendering to Guru they get enlightenment. But it is not so.
Self-declared Gurus are more concerned with themselves than with their disciples and play with their sentiments and emotions.
By sticking to such Gurus, the seeker will not get Self –realization. Gurus and yogis are meant for those who are emotionally involved with their religion and religious Gods.
A Gnani never claims himself as a Gnani, he guides the seekers, not posing himself as a Guru, and he does not force his wisdom on others.
Sage Sankara: ~ "Though I wear these robes of a Sanyasin, it is only for the sake of bread."
Sage Sankara in Viveka Chudamani (2), states that the Knower of the Atman (i.e., a Gnani) "bears no outward mark of a holy man" (Stanza 539).
Sage Sankara writes: ~ “Sometimes he (A Gnani) appears to be a Fool, sometimes a wise man. Sometimes he seems splendid as a king, feeble-minded. Sometimes he is calm and silent. Sometimes he draws men to him. Sometimes people honor him greatly, sometimes they insult him. Sometimes they ignore him.
Manduka Upanishads: - It is very difficult to find out who is a Gnani because he bears no external mark. Neither nudity nor the yellow robe has anything to do with him.
The
worship or glorifying Gurus as God does not free one from ignorance.
Many people are struck
with awe or reverence at the outer indications of renunciation, and thus
blindly accept a religious Guru or Godmen to be a Gnani. The two have no
connection. Because he has no wife, no family, and no possessions" they
think a man who has merely repressed these desires as though these things had anything
to do with wisdom, is merely religious. People are quite incompetent to
judge who is a Gnani between Godmen, intellectuals, and yogis. A Gnani is
neither Godmen, nor a yogi, nor an intellectual.
The man who speaks
about religious God, scriptures, and religion is not a Gnani. A yogi who speaks
about yoga is not a Gnani. A God-man who indulges in miracles is not a Gnani. An
intellectual who argues on his own speculated theories is not a Gnani. A Gnani
is the one who hares knowledge and guides people towards the source of the mind
(physical existence) is real Gnani. A Gnani never claims himself a teacher nor
does he accept anyone as a disciple.
In the olden days, men were primitive in their
thought, so that a man having little knowledge was considered a genius.
Nowadays our knowledge is so advanced that the genius of those days would be
an ordinary man of today. Therefore if one finds truth, free his -Self from the
tyranny of environment and tradition, not by condemning them but by examining
and testing them by deeper Self-search o
find out whether they be true or not.
Accept nothing on the authority of a Godmen or genius of the past or present
but only if it proves true after the examination. Sticking to physical Guru or yogi sentimentally
and emotionally will block Self- realization. No Guru can transmit wisdom to
you. You have to do your own homework.
The
likeminded people are always willing to examine facts and judge them
calmly whereas the religious scholars and intellectuals will be immune to all facts and hold hard to
their delusions. Such people do not want the truth but only what pleases them. This
is because of their egocentric attitude.
Their attitude is “What pleases them is truth, what they dislike is false.
The worship or glorifying Gurus does not free one from
ignorance. The rewards are none to them, the reward achieved in their lives are
of consequence and not the result of worshiping and glorifying the Gurus.
People always need some sort of hope when their minds are
not yet enlightened. "Self is closer to man than his own veins."
"With the Self- Knowledge, one will begin to know the ultimate truth, to finally realize the fact that, the Self is not the form and becomes conscious that the ‘Self’
is the ‘Spirit’.
Most people lack the patience and perseverance in investigating and collecting all the data before judging: hence they assume Guru are Godmen are great because other people say so, or that he is wise because he himself says so, or that what he teaches is true because it attracts them. Such an attitude and easy assumptions become obstacles to fold the truth and it requires some trouble to put into effect.
Remember:~
Following some Gurus, people lose the independent thinking power, time, effort, and their hard-earned savings in the hope of realizing God. People are emotionally vulnerable and “brainwashed and psychologically seduced,” by the myth propagated by the belief system,
The seeker of truth must be “too smart” to ever fall into the trap of religiously propagated myth.
The so-called enlightened Gurus who promise instant enlightenment for money are not Gnanis. The seeker of truth has to be very careful if he is seeking truth nothing but the truth.
Everyone pursuing or thinking of pursuing the path of wisdom need not fall into the trap of physical Guru. Devotion to physical Guru is the devotional path not the path of wisdom.
Religious people follow the path of Bhakti and the yogic path. The path of wisdom is only for those who are serious in their quest for truth. Without an intense urge, it is difficult to tread the path of wisdom.
So many scandals of the fake Gurus are exposed in recent times. The darker side of modern Gurudom of fake Gurus and yogis so embarrassing~ sometimes vicious or criminal~ reports which they prefer to hide.
Remember:~
If one is seeking the truth, nothing but the truth, then he has to keep in mind, the truth cannot be bought in the spiritual supermarket.
There is no need to walk in the mountains in search of the truth. There is no need to meet any Gurus. There is no need to renounce family life. There is no need to study the scriptures. There is no need for glorifying the Gurus.
There is no need to spend the fortune to please the Gurus. Going to the mountains, searching for a Guru, renouncing the family life, studying the scriptures, glorifying the personal Gods and Gurus are the greatest obstacle in the path of wisdom.
One need not be a monk, a sanyasi, or swami to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
Religious rituals scriptural mastery, are not a qualification to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
Monkhood and sannyasa are the greatest obstacles in the truth- realization, which is hidden by ignorance.
Guru, Swami, Yogi, Sadhu, and Avatar belong to religious paths. Religious paths are paths meant for the ignorant who blindly accept their experience the birth, life, death, and the world as a reality because the universe is the product of ignorance.
When wisdom dawns then the unreal nature of the world in which you exist is exposed. Thus, whatever experiences take place within the world in which you exist is bound to be a falsehood.
The Guru, Swami, Yogi, Sadhu, and Avatara nothing to do with the ultimate truth or Brahman because they are based on the false self (ego), and false experience (waking).
The Path of wisdom is only for those who are seriously in search of ultimate truth or Brahman. Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana is the knowledge of the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
