The world in which you exist is mortal. Only the Soul, the Self is immortal. The Soul is present in the form of consciousness.
Idols are made up of stone or wood. Seeing God in the idol of individualized God is the ignorance of the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space. So, idols are mortal of the mortals.
A Gnani cannot worship an idol because he has realized the ultimate truth. The ultimate truth or Brahman is God. God in truth is free from form, time, and space.
The orthodox Advaitins are completely immersed in the dualistic illusion thinking of it as a reality. The orthodox Advaitins has a belief in personal God s indulges in the worship of God s and glorifying the Gurus with non-Vedic rituals. This worship of individualized God s keeps the Soul, the Self in the prison of the dualistic illusion.
Only Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana leads to realizing the ultimate truth or God, which is hidden by the illusory form, time, and space. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
