The waking, dream, and deep sleep are the three states. The three-states are impermanent because they appear and disappear.

The Soul is present in the form of consciousness. Consciousness becomes duality (waking or dream). And the duality (waking or dream) becomes nonduality (deep sleep).

Thus, the substances of the three states are one and the same. The substance of the three states itself is the witness of the three states. Therefore, the substance and the witness are one, in essence. The essence is consciousness. The consciousness is the ultimate truth or Brahman.

Whatever is claimed as 'me' and mine is meaningless because ‘me’ and ‘mine are based on the ego. The ego belongs to the dualistic illusion or Maya.

From the ultimate standpoint, there is no second thing that exists other than the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. The nature of the Soul, the Self is formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.

The world in which we exist is nothing but consciousness. if the world in which we exist is consciousness then there is nothing that exists other than consciousness.

The ego limits the consciousness to the form, time, and space. If you want to overcome the physical conditioning of consciousness, then you have to realize the fact that, 'Self' is not you but the ‘‘Self’’ is the Soul, which is in the form of consciousness.

There is room for duality in the reality; therefore the birth, life, death, and the world are merely an illusion created out of consciousness.

Remember

From the standpoint of Soul, the ‘Self’, the three states are an illusion. Thus, there is no fourth state.

Turiya is the nature of the Soul, the ‘Self’. When the Soul, the Self remains in its own awareness in the midst of duality, then it is ‘Self’-awareness or Turiya. :

Realizing all the three states are made of single stuff, and that single stuff is Soul, which is present in the form of the consciousness, leads to Advaitic  Self-awareness.

The knowledge of the single stuff is ‘Self’-knowledge.

Mentally dropping all the accumulated knowledge and starting afresh is very much necessary to realize the truth, which is hidden by the illusory form, time, and space.

Remember:~

The mind appears as the universe.

There was no mind in deep sleep. As soon as waking takes place the mind appears. The mind is present in the form of the universe. The universe appears as the waking or dream. The waking is a parallel dream and a dream is a parallel dream.

The man – confronts the universe in the waking or in a dream. The waking or the dream appears as a whole and disappears as a whole. To examine it closely, one has to analyze the three states and mentally trace the witness of the three states. The witness of the three states is formless and apart. The witness is hidden within the three states as their formless substance and it is apart from the three states as their formless witness.

The witness is the Soul, the innermost Self. The innermost Self is present in the form of consciousness. In the realm of truth, the formless substance and witness are one in essence. The essence is consciousness.

Thus, there is no second thing other than consciousness. Thus, consciousness alone is real and the universe is merely an illusion created out of consciousness.

The universe (mind), which appears and disappears, only forms, and shapes are created out of consciousness and nothing else. Consciousness alone is positive proof.

On the standpoint of the Soul (consciousness) as Self, one becomes aware of the falsity of this mind (universe), which is a mere appearance.

The one which appears as the mind (universe) and disappears as no mind (Soul) is the consciousness alone. Therefore, the mind and Soul are one in essence.

The mental analysis shows that, the existence of the formless witness, which witnesses the coming and going, of the three states without a break. On deeper analysis, is found to be that changeless, Soul, or consciousness itself. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
